Obituary

Mrs. Virginia Bennett, age 98, of Eastman, Georgia passed away Sunday, August 9, 2026.

Mrs. Bennett was born May 31, 1928 in Athens, Georgia to the late Caroline Hunter and Ennis Leathers. She attended the University of Georgia and pursued a career in education where she taught at Dodge Elementary and later served as a substitute teacher for many years. She loved her work and enjoyed interacting with students. She was a lady of great faith and was always grateful under all circumstances. She was a kind, sweet lady who loved everyone. Mrs. Bennett was the oldest member of Eastman First Methodist Church.

Mrs. Bennett is survived by her children, Jane Tolleson (Bob) and Fred Bennett III; her grandchildren, Comer Aebersold (Brandon), Bobby Tolleson (Ansley), and Jenny Winston (Alex); her great grandchildren, Caroline Aebersold, Catherine Aebersold, Hunter Tolleson, Hazel Tolleson, Coen Winston, and Ethan Winston; and her sister, Jane Schall (Dick); and many beloved nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Bennett is predeceased by her husband, Fred “Buddy” Bennett, Jr.; her step-father, Sam A. Smith, Sr.; and her brother, Sam A. Smith, Jr.

The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to Heart of Georgia Nursing Home, espicially Ms. Ramona Martinez, for their exceptional care during the stay of Mrs. Bennett.
