Mr. Ruben "Bookie" Whittle, age 88, passed away peacefully Tuesday, January 3, 2023 at his residence.
Graveside services will be held Saturday, January 7, 2023 at 3 p.m. in Woodlawn Cemetery.
Mr. Whittle was born March 7, 1934 in Eastman, Georgia to the late Cora Wright and Edward Whittle. He was known by his friends as "Bookie" and recognized for his energetic handshake. He retired from RAFB after working 34 years as an aircraft mechanic and was a member of "The Engine Shop Duds". He was a 1953 graduate of Old Dodge High and served in the U.S Army during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Whittle enjoyed being a part of the community, where he was active in the Eastman/Dodge Recreation Department as well as the DCHS Indians Booster Club.
He is survived by his children, Greg Whittle (Sharon) and Michael Whittle (Pam Slye); grandchildren, Nathan Whittle, Katie Frank (Ryan), Thomas Whittle (Jenni), Russell Whittle, Laura Whittle, and Rachel Whittle.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his siblings, Fred Whittle, Myrtice Lindsey, Ruth Whittle, and Lois Colter.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Gideons International in memory of Mr. Whittle.
