Obituary

Olin Crawford Pound, Jr. age 92 of Marietta, died peacefully at his home, 4025 Tritt Homestead Dr. on April 12, 2021.
A private memorial service will be held in Marietta and a visitation will be held at Hardy-Towns Funeral Home in Eastman on Saturday, April 17 from 3-5pm.
Olin was born January 10, 1929 in Eastman, GA to Olin Crawford Pound, Sr. and Sinclair Bass Pound. He was a retired CPA and lived the majority of his life in Eastman. He and his wife Jean moved to Marietta in 2012 to be near their family.
Olin graduated high school from Georgia Military College at age 16 and then enrolled at Emory University. He served two years in the Army Corps of Engineers, with one year in Germany. Upon being discharged from the Army in November 1952, he returned to Eastman to marry his childhood sweetheart. Olin worked as a bookkeeper for Stuckey's Candy Company until 1958 when he returned to Emory to complete his degree in accounting. He worked with McGinty Accounting in McRae, GA where he received his CPA before moving back to Eastman to set up his private practice. In 1976 Olin began commuting to Atlanta where he worked for 10 years in Apartment Management. After his time commuting, he returned to Eastman where he established ComPound Accounting. He retired from his business in 2008.
Olin was involved in many civic and other organizations throughout his lifetime, often holding leadership positions. He was an organizer and charter member of the Eastman Jaycees. Additionally, he was involved with the Eastman Rotary Club, the Civitan Club, the Red Cross, the Elks Club, the March of Dimes, the Dodge County Youth Council and Habitat for Humanity. He served as Dodge County Band Boosters President from 1965-1978 and was appointed to and served on the Georgia State Civil War Commission. As a member and later President of the Dodge Historical Society, he was instrumental in revitalizing the Eastman House so it could be opened to the community.
Olin served as the organist at Eastman First United Methodist Church for 40 years. He was a pillar of the church in Eastman, and he faithfully attended church, including virtual services, until his death. He was a member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church in Marietta.
Olin and his beloved wife Jean shared a fairy tale love story. In their words, they became sweethearts on November 11, 1938 at 3:30pm. They married February 15, 1953. While a 68-year marriage is certainly not the norm, being in love for over 82 years is extraordinary.
Along with Jean, he is survived by his daughter, Clair Pound Hetherington (Scott) of Marietta; son, O. Crawford Pound, III (Debra) of Woodstock; granddaughter Laurie Hetherington of Marietta; grandson Stephen Hetherington of Lexington, SC; granddaughter Angela Burton (Zack) of Marietta; grandson Alex Pound of Atlanta; and great granddaughters Ivy and Layla Burton of Marietta. He was predeceased by his parents, Olin and Sinclair Pound; his aunt, Mildred Martin; and his son, Lauren "Dillard" Pound.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Eastman First UMC; Mt. Zion UMC, or M.U.S.T. Ministries.
