Mrs. Myrtice Alford Edwards, age 92, of Eastman passed away Sunday, March 5, 2017 at the home of her daughter in Stone Mountain, Georgia.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Wednesday, March 8, 2017 at Hardy-Towns Chapel with Dr. Walter Price and Dr. Jerry Peele officiating. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery.
Visitations will be Tuesday, March 7, 2017 from 2 til 4 p.m. and 6 til 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mrs. Edwards was born December 14, 1924 in Laurens County to the late Alma Odom and Homer Lee Alford. She was a member of Eastman First Baptist Church for seventy-one years where she taught The Joy Sunday School Class. She served as GA Leader, a member of the Building Committee, and the Search Committee. She was a graduate of Brewton Parker College, where she was honored as The Oldest Living Graduate and of Bessie Tift College. Mrs. Edwards was an Algebra and Physical Science teacher at Dodge County High School and was a former member of The Dodge County Board of Education. Her teaching career spanned for over twenty years.
She is survived daughters and sons-in-law, Celeste and Richard Furr of Marietta, Ga. and Mitzi and Jim Smiley of Stone Mountain, Ga.; grandchildren, Lindsey Shumpert (John David) 0f Atlanta, Ga. and Blake Smiley of Monroe, Ga.; sister, Leaette Braswell (Bill) of Eastman, Ga.; daughter of the heart, Jane Clifford; several nieces and nephews also survived.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, M.H. Edwards and sister, Mable Smith.
Those serving as pallbearers are Keith Braswell, Kirk Braswell, Kip Braswell, Blake Smiley, John David Shumpert, and Ken Rogers. Honorary pallbearers are The Mac Group and The Joy Sunday School Class.
