John Carson Henderson, 92, died July 17, 2016, with his wife at his side.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 23rd, 2016 at 11:00 AM at North Decatur United Methodist Church. Prior to the memorial service, visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 AM in the Welcome Center at the church.
Funeral services will be held in the Chapel of Hardy-Towns Funeral Home Saturday, July 23, 2016 at 4:00 PM in Eastman, Georgia. (Hardy-Towns Funeral Directors, 6399 Oak Street, Eastman, Georgia.)
Carson, as he was known to family and friends, was retired from Georgia Highway Express/Transus as Traffic Manager after 37 years of service. A member of North Decatur United Methodist Church, he was a member of the TNT Sunday School Class, served on the Board of Stewards, the Finance Committee, and the Board of Trustees and in many other areas within the church. He was a native of Houston County, GA. He lived most of his life in the Decatur, Georgia area and was a graduate of Perry High School and University of Georgia (Atlanta campus), as Georgia State College was called in 1959. A member of the Delta Nu Transportation Fraternity, he was also active in many civic and public school organizations.
In his earlier years, he was an avid fisherman and bird hunter. As he grew older, he spent most of his "leisure" time gardening and building bird houses.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Gwendolyn; his daughter and her husband Carren and Gladstone Sellers; and his grandchildren Gladstone Carson (Trey) Sellers and Courtney Sellers.
Carson was preceded in death by his parents, J.C. and Carrie Smith Henderson and his two sisters, Laura Nell Henderson and Carolyn Henderson.
