Dr. Henry Edward Roberts, age 68, of Cochran died Thursday, April 1, 2010.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, April 5, 2010 at Cochran First Baptist Church. Committal services for family and friends will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Stuckey Baptist Church Cemetery out from Alamo, Ga. Visitation will be Saturday, April 3, 2010 from 6 til 8 p.m. at Hardy-Towns Funeral Home in Eastman.
Dr. Roberts was born in 1941 in Miami, Florida, to Henry Melvin Roberts and Edna Wilcher Roberts. In 1962 Dr. Roberts joined the United States Air Force and in 1968 earned an electrical engineering degree from Oklahoma State University.
Dr. Roberts is best known for his 1975 development and marketing of the MITS Altair 8800, widely regarded as the world's first personal computer.
Dr. Roberts was a 1986 graduate of Mercer University. He practiced medicine in Cochran from 1988 until the present.
Dr. Roberts is survived by wife, Rosa Cooper Roberts of Cochran; Mother, EdnaWilcher Roberts of Dublin; daughter, Dawn Roberts of Warner Robins; sons, Melvin Roberts of Athens, Clark Roberts of Athens, Dr. David Roberts (Jennifer) of Eastman, Edward Roberts of Atlanta, and Martin Roberts of Wheeler County; grandchildren, John Kennedy, Marcie Kennedy, and Allison Roberts; great-grandchild, Jack Kennedy.
Dr. Roberts is predeceased by his father, Henry Roberts; and sister, Cheryl Roberts.
