Gerald Bert "Gerry" Renchy, currently residing in Eastman, Georgia, formerly a resident of Branford and Guilford, Connecticut passed away peacefully on Friday, April 14, 2023 at the age of 90.
Mr. Renchy was born on March 14th, 1933 at the family home, Gerrish Avenue, East Haven, Connecticut to his loving parents, William Albert Renchy and Thelma Gerrish Renchy. He was the great-great grandnephew of Captain Henry G. Gerrish of the 6th Connecticut Volunteers, Company K, who lost his life from injuries sustained in battle on August 19th, 1862.
After graduating from East Haven High School in 1952, Gerry joined the United States Army in 1953 where he served with guided missiles at Aberdeen Proving Grounds, MD, Fort Gordon, GA, and Fort Bliss, TX. He was honorably discharged in 1956. Upon returning home, he went to work for Western Electric, and was then employed for over 30 years with AT&T as an Operations Supervisor. Upon retirement, he began a second career of selling antiques and collectibles. It became a great passion, along with his love of history and its preservation. He enjoyed traditional country/western music and "being on the road again" traveling the backroads of the United States.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved brothers, William "Billy" Renchy, Dorman Renchy, and his cousin, Elizabeth Markovics McLean, who was like a sister to him. He was also preceded in death by his constant companions, his "kids in fur suits", Daisy and Murray.
He is survived by his loving and cherished children and grandchildren, Son, Todd A. Renchy of Fort Collins, CO; Daughter, Claudia Renchy Morton of Burlington, VT; Grandsons, William "Liam" Morton and Nevin Morton; Granddaughter, Sydney Renchy; his precious Great-grandson, Sultan Rio Cook. He was the loyal, loving husband of Maryellen G. Renchy. He is also survived by his devoted younger brother and gracious sister-in-law, Craig and Heather Renchy. He was the proud father-in-law of Allan Morton of VT, and Suzy Renchy of CO. He is also survived by his first wife, Paula Andrews Green; nieces, nephews, and cousins, who he adored as well as the best friend anyone could ever be blessed with, Herman Kustra.
He treasured the many friends, acquaintances, and co-workers that he was fortunate enough to meet along life's journey. These past years at Dogwood Gardens Senior Living brought him much joy, thanks to the wonderful owners, compassionate staff, and fellow residents who became a second family for him.
