Obituary

Mrs. Dawn Steele Rutland, age 56, of Cochran, Georgia passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, July 19, 2026. Memorial services will be held in the chapel at Hardy-Towns Funeral Home at 2:00 pm on Thursday, July 23, 2026 with Rev. Matt Rutland officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.

Mrs. Rutland was born on October 3, 1969 to Mrs. Jacqueline Singletary Steele and the late Kenny Steele. She was a Licensed Practical Nurse and enjoyed her work in Labor and Delivery. In her free time, Mrs. Rutland enjoyed a variety of hobbies including shopping, cooking, fishing, decorating, and watching classic television shows. She enjoyed traveling by boat or airplane and loved visiting the nation’s capital, Washington D.C. She was an animal lover and advocated for them frequently. In addition, she was a faithful member of Mount Calvary Baptist Church of Cary, Georgia. Above all else, Mrs. Rutland was the epitome of a loving Wife, Mother, and Grammie.

Mrs. Rutland is survived by her husband, Greg Rutland; her children, Sara Stubbs (Jeremy), Ben Rutland (Audrey), and Chase Rutland; her grandchildren, Ruby Kat Stubbs, Daniel Stubbs, and Peridot Stubbs; her mother, Jacqueline Steele; father-in-law, Benny Rutland (Lynda); her sister, Anita Steele-Waley (Cathy); her nieces and nephews, Jonathan Rutland, Devin Rutland, Claire Rutland, Justin Wilcox, Tim Coleman, Robert Landmesser, Nicole Quattlebaum, Travis Strickland, and Matthew Strickland; her brother-in-law, Matt Rutland (Cherie); and her cousins including Blake Milner and Bart Milner.

In addition to her father, Mrs. Rutland is predeceased by her sister, Hope Landmesser; her aunt, Judy Milner; her mother-in-law, Kathleen Rutland; and her grandparents, Charles Singletary (Celeste), and Walter B. Steele (Ruby).
